We value the friendly, welcoming, supportive spirit that we have in the present schools with their strong emphasis on pastoral care and respect for one another.

We look forward to working together to continue and to develop that spirit where each child is valued and is at the centre of everything we do. We welcome the improvement in facilities but it is not the buildings that make the school. It is the community of people working together.

The Catholic School in the Modern world-Patronage & Ethos

Although the new schools were built by the Department of Education and Skills, they will continue to be under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Ferns, Bishop Ger Nash.

The Catholic faith informs the values and traditions that are lived out and nurtured every day in the schools. The Primary School curriculum states that each child should be enabled to ‘develop a knowledge and understanding of his or her own religious traditions and beliefs, with respect for the religious traditions and beliefs of others’. Our Catholic school is inclusive and welcomes pupils of other traditions. The presence of children from diverse backgrounds enriches the life of the school community.

As a Catholic school, religious education is provided for pupils in accordance with the doctrines, practices and traditions of the Catholic Church. Catholic children will be provided with religious experiences that will help them to develop their faith, such as prayer and sacramental preparation.

In addition to these activities, all children will learn about and from the beliefs, teachings and practices of the great religious traditions of the world, with a particular focus on Christianity. This type of learning is open to, and inclusive of all children, regardless of their faith background. Children of all faiths and none are welcome to participate in this aspect of the religious education programme that the school provides.

Catholic schools respect the religious traditions of other students. We have a significant number of pupils from other faiths and from families who profess no religious faith. Our schools have been enriched as we adapt to serve such a culturally diverse range of pupils.
